Yesterday morning Eastar was turned out for less than an hour before he wanted in so Martin got him for me as I was in the bath. Sadly at the same time it started to snow heavy & Eastar wasn’t happy at all & very jumpy (Martin projecting onto Eastar possibly), anyway sweet Martin wiped the snow from Eastar’s face which clearly he liked as he sent Martin flying trying to rub his face on Martin’s arm & continued this game all the way home :p Poor Martin was so jumpy he couldn’t take the rug off as he said Eastar was moving around all the time, love all his effort though & think he deserves a medal.
Today I didn’t even bother turning Eastar out & opted for a little wander to see what he made of the snow. Frustration & disbelief are the feelings he displayed most clearly. He wasn’t fussed with snow under foot, but the point it was covering any chance of food simply wasn’t funny! He tried pawing at the ground & pushing the snow aside with his nose, yet couldn’t find any trace of juicy grass. With that he took to having a roll before admitting defeat & heading back to his stable (still in search of food) where he found his treat ball full of pony nuts & a rack of hay.
I’ve had some hopeful news on a companion this week & although a slow process I keep my fingers crossed that she might be with us in a few weeks. Her name is Bean & she’s a real stunner at 16yrs young. Watch this space!
I’m not 100% sure we can afford to take on another or even that my boss will allow a bud for Eastar, but I truly feel he needs one. Maybe I’m wrong & we’ll find that he still only wants 40mins to an hour grazing before he starts pacing around, speeding up as time passes until he’s a sweaty anxious twit. But I hope he will completely settle & be happy again like he seemed when he had sheep for company/wasn’t the only prey.
